Hello Everybody,

If you want to lose weight the first thing you need to know is how to do it. Eating healthy food is a good beginning, but what food? To many of us healthy food means lettuce, carrots and nothing we enjoy. The very thought is enough to make us head for the nearest fast food outlet to recover. But healthy food need not be some kind of penance for the unhealthy food we have been eating all those years. It can be some of the nicest food you have tasted. The problem is finding out what to eat. You need some healthy food ideas to lose weight and one of the best places to find them is Good Food magazine. It publishes many recipes each week, all healthy and all worth considering. Here is the sort of thing you can try for breakfast:
Fruit and Nut Granola.
Servings. 14
Prep. 10 minutes.
Cook. 25 minutes.
Ingredients.
1tsb. Vegetable oil.
100ml clear honey.
50ml maple syrup.
500g jumbo rolled oats.
100g flaked almonds.
50g pine nuts.
100g puffed rice.
2tbsp sesame seeds.
50g each sultanas and raisons.
85g each dried cranberries, dried cherries, chopped dried dates, and chopped dried apricots.
50g dried coconut shavings (obtainable from health food shops).
Greek yoghurt and raspberries to serve.
Method.
Heat oven to160C/fan 140C/gas 3. Heat the oil, honey and maple syrup together in a pan. Mix the oats, almonds, pine nuts, puffed rice and sesame seeds in a large mixing bowl. Pour over the honey mix, stir well to coat, then tip onto a large baking tray, bake for 15 minutes until everything is golden and crisp.
Take the tray from the oven, leave to cool, then break up any big clumps. Mix together with the dried fruit and coconut shavings. Serve with Greek yoghurt and fresh raspberries. The rest of the granola can be stored in a sealed jar and enjoyed over the next 2 weeks.
Calories 374 per serving.
Making home made granola can be a little complicated with a lot of ingredients, but remember this will last one person two weeks. It certainly tastes good and you will find it worth the effort. That is one healthy idea to lose weight at breakfast from Good Food magazine. Next I will post two of their lunch recipes. Meanwhile enjoy your granola.
See you soon,
